Weeks 4-6: MIA
I should be asleep. Or doing homework... but I'm writing a post since "MIA" has been my status for the past few weeks.
On Saturday, July 19, I started feeling "off" as the day progressed, and by the time RCIA and Mass were over on Sunday, I had a bad attitude and a high fever. Initially thought that perhaps it was heat sickness (111f and I had walked to mass), but COVID hit hard and fast—this stood as the first time in three years I've tested positive for the virus. It has been more difficult than I could have anticipated in the healing process, and only over the past few days have I noticed improvement markers with a nearly debilitating cough and fatigue. Urgent care, the surprise curveballs of two separate episodes of fainting while coughing ("Cough syncope"), and a high hospital bill with enough medicine for four people have been the icing on the cake of the past 3.5 weeks.
In RCIA, I missed the teaching mass and the welcome dinner. Acquaintances I've made during the first few weeks have mentioned that I've worried too much about the coughing and being around others, but I truly haven't been up to explaining the details and why I had to miss both events... talking still hurts.
I was able to make RCIA on the 3rd & 10th (last weekend), but I may as well have been absent on August 3rd with being exhausted; the notes are barely legible. Last weekend, we had a great overview of the Trinitarian theory, and my hopes are high that continued improvements in the lingering cough are solid enough for me to lean back into weekly Bible Study this Thursday.
More to come.
Stay safe out there… we aren’t in the clear yet.
