Week 2: In Brief.
This week's recap will be brief!
RCIA class has been rescheduled this week with parish stewardship needs underway all weekend, and personally, these past several days have been a wild ride. Thankful to be looking at the standalone obligation of mass versus a three-hour education session so I can decompress a bit, as I'm definitely in the headspace of needing "one less thing," on my plate.
In the spirit of weaving current resources into a comprehensive update...
Via the Hallow app, I'm working through The Catechism in a Year, which for me is forecasted as "The Catechism in Eight Weeks" considering the current pace. As of Day 44, I'm on session No. 216 (paragraphs #1577-1580). Speaking of the Catechism, I'm using three separate versions ... because this is how I do things. I purchased this print version to actively notate, bought the Acension Press version because I've heard Fr. Mike mention it 216 times to date, and also downloaded the Acension Press app to avoid carrying seven pounds of literature to the Holy Family Cathedral every week.
This is the Catholic study Bible I'm using (another hefty book), and I've read this book by St. John Paul II twice previously, but am actively praying over it again through RCIA. 10/10 recommend.
Adding this resource specifically for non-Catholics: Initially started strong with the Crash Course Catholicism podcast before I downloaded the Hallow app in June, but dropped off at episode #24. The spunkiness of the host was welcome at first, however, the casual illustrative points and frequent deviations from the topic as the show progressed proved too distracting, and I eventually stopped listening. This particular podcast may be better suited for those who do not intend to become Catholic and are seeking to understand Catholicism as if they were talking to a friend casually.
Tomorrow, I'm headed out to an early dinner with my RCIA sponsor at the amazing Roka here in Tulsa (seriously, give it a shot), and am planning on hitting the road beforehand so I can finish the Sacraments section of the Catechism (audibly anyway) this weekend. After a very full week of dozens of meetings, presentations, contract negotiations, onboarding a new client for content creation, and finals week with portfolio submission for the summer term at university, I'm VERY much looking forward to fully leaning into a day of rest on Sunday. May fast for a total and prayerful reset.
With that, this post is a wrap! Have a fantastic weekend ahead, and God bless.
